Mumm champagne has been around since 1827, although the official Mumm family dates back to the 12th century. The business also has roots stretching back further than 1827: by 1761 the family had already launched their business as wine makers and merchants in Cologne.
This family- the Von Mumms- are one of the most ancient noble families in Germany.
When their famous red ribbon Cordon Rouge range was introduced to the UK, it was marketed as ‘the most expensive, therefore the best’. In 1904 this bubbly was served at none other than Buckingham Palace, and it became the leading champagne house by 1913.
