Canard-Duchene Authentic Vintage 2008 (75cl)
Following a mild, damp winter, spring was plagued by low temperatures, significant rainfall and some hard frosts in April, leading to late budding. Nevertheless, a mild May allowed the vines to catch up.
It was a summer of contrasts. The harvest began between the 15th and 25th September depending on the area. The weather was ideal, dry and sunny during the day, and cool at night, allowing the grapes to develop good sugar levels. The quality of the grapes was exceptional, with a perfect balance of sugar and acidity in the grape must. Following the base wine tasting in the spring of 2009, Laurent Fédou, Canard-Duchêne’s Head Winemaker, decided to make 2009 a vintage year.
Authentic Vintage 2009 is based on a blend of Pinot Noir (36%), Chardonnay (32%) and Pinot Meunier (32%), from a number of different crus including Hautvilliers, Avize, Le Mesnil sur Oger, Ay, and Rilly-la-Montagne.
Blending power and freshness, this vintage remains in keeping with the Canard-Duchêne house style.
A sparkling golden colour, the Authentic Vintage 2009 is full of aromas of toast and orchard fruit compote. Showing all the typical features of the 2009 vintage, the wine is harmonious, round and powerful on the palate, with a lengthy finish. This vintage, perfect as an aperitif, would also be an admirable match for grilled lobster or slow-cooked leg of lamb and with a dessert of salted caramel macarons.
