Besserat de Bellefon was established in 1843 in Ay by Edouard Besserat. A local of Hautvillers, he connected his craftsmanship and expertise to making wines which he dispersed to leading hotels, eateries and purveyors of fine wines.
Taking after Edouard the family proceeded with his legacy. His grandsons Victor and Edmond acquired his enthusiasm for flawlessness and his feeling of incredibleness and exclusive expectations. One was an unrivaled winemaker, the other a remarkable wine taster and they worked indefatigably and in complete amicability to expand the renown and picture of their House.
1930 denoted a memorable defining moment for Besserat de Bellefon with the making of a softly shining champagne that could be plastered all through a supper. This was the conception of the extent known today as Cuvée des Moines (Cuvee of the Monks).
